The Los Angeles County is home to a vibrant and diverse LGBTQ+ community, and there are many events held throughout the year to celebrate and support this community. Christopher Street West (CSW) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that produces the annual LA Pride Parade & Festival in Los Angeles and organizes, supports, or sponsors several other LGBTQ+ events. On June 28, 1970, approximately 2000 people gathered at McCadden Place in Los Angeles, marched north to Hollywood Blvd, and headed east to Vine Street. This event was the first LGBTQ+ Pride Parade in the United States and has since become an important annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. The Hacienda Heights Community Center hosts a variety of events for the LGBTQ+ community throughout the year.
On the last Tuesday of every month, they host an event from 6-8pm that includes cross-dressing storytelling, the delivery of pride bracelets, a resource fair, and a community speaker. This event is supported by SGV LGBTQ+. Ladera Park also hosts an event for the LGBTQ+ community every month from 6-8pm. This event includes support from the Los Angeles Gay Men's Choir.
Family Place is based on the knowledge that good health, early learning, parent involvement, and supportive communities play a critical role in the growth and development of young children. Celebration Theater is one of the oldest LGBTQIA+ theaters in the country and was founded in December 1982 in a Silver Lake storefront. This year, Los Angeles County Parks will host their first department-wide Pride Month celebration during the month of June in 56 parks, in collaboration with LGBTQ+ community organizations. The LA Pride Festival parade is one of the most important LGBTQ Pride events in the world and is traditionally held on the second weekend of June. It is produced by the Christopher Street West Association. Lennox Park also hosts an event for the LGBTQ+ community every month from 6-8pm.
Activities include Building a Pride Bear, crafts, and refreshments. This event is supported by Life Works Mentoring, an LGBTQ center in Los Angeles. Kang Seung Lee is a multidisciplinary artist who was born in South Korea and now lives and works in Los Angeles. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour conversation with three Los Angeles-based photographers, Rick Castro, Amina Cruz and Texas Isaiah, who create stunning works of art that highlight and celebrate underrepresented LGBTQ+ communities. During the month of June, there are plenty of opportunities to meet and celebrate with members of the LGBT+ community in Los Angeles. From parades to festivals to storytelling events to resource fairs, there are plenty of ways to get involved and show your support for this vibrant community.
